maarten baas has issued a line of mass-produced furnishings based on sloppy clay designs. the industrial clay is hand-molded around a metal frame to reveal the craft behind the product.
FULL-ON! 
Inspired by gestures of wrapping and marking and the resourcefulness of urban dwellers to create imaginative worlds from leftover materials found on the street, New York based artist Shinique Smith’s installations bridge the boundaries between painting and sculpture. She draws on hip hop music, graffiti, calligraphy and her ancestral ties to her South Pacific ancestry, and seeks to refine and distill these elements into a spiritual language. Her work deals with the cross sections of subcultures, the utilization of items from popular culture to reach a higher aesthetic, and the blurring of boundaries. In this installation she will be using items ranging from cut carpets to bound clothing to create FULL-ON effects. Smith has exhibited widely at venues including the studio museum of Harlem. Smith’s residency at BMoCA, has been funded in part by a grant from the Boulder Arts Commission. She will also be one of the visiting artists in BMoCA’s newly introduced Young Artists at Work program.

Paddy Hartley is one of 35 International artists showing in the latest exhibition called Pricked: extreme embroidery at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York until March 9th 2008. This follows on from their show Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting earlier this year. These shows are available as touring shows - if only one of the major spaces in the UK would bring these exhibits over here. After looking at Stuart Haygarth work i wondered if the rubbish left behind by my flat mates would have the same effect?

My photographic illustration work involves the building of collages/ assemblages using both 3D objects and 2D imagery. The collage is then photographed with a large format camera and studio lighting so that the work can be produced in print form.The work has attracted a wide variety of assignments from advertising, design, publishing and editorial fields. I have also created several permanent installation pieces.

Starting in 2004 I have been working on design projects which revolve around the collections of objects. The objects are normally collected in large quantities categorized and assembled in a way that transforms their meaning. My work is about giving banal and overlooked objects a new significance. The finished piece of work takes various forms such as chandeliers, installations, functional and sculptural objects.

Sophie Mason started her handbag business back in 2003 by finding beauty in unexpected places. Crafting purses and bags from recycled skateboard decks, she loving preserved the scratches, dents and scruffs, while creating innovative, sturdy, functional bags. She does custom work and does her part for the earth by buying back deck on her website.
Rico Daniels
Extreme recycler and star of The Salvager, and the follow up Le Salvager - his own series for Discovery Real Time. Each show sees him knock up something weird and wonderful from the most unlikely mix of rubbish and reclamation – such as a TV/DVD entertainment unit that was once a galvanised water tank and two 50s fire extinguishers.
Inspired by his upbringing in the East End of London in the 1950s, Rico spent his time salvaging from ruined houses and factories around him. When he’s not up to his elbows in rubbish, Rico likes nothing more than a spot of fire-breathing, axe-throwing or knocking out a tune on his blues harmonica.
